BT Group - Pay 2014
Start of Negotiations with BT
4 March 2014
The CWU negotiating team, led by Andy Kerr, Deputy General Secretary, met with BT on the 27 February 2014, to open talks on this yearís annual pay review for all NewGRID and related team member grades, in advance of the 1 April 2014 review date.
The CWU presented its case for an increase of 3% plus a flat rate payment of £500 which is fully consolidated and pensionable and flows through to all allowances automatically increased in line with the pay review. In addition we have sought a 10% increase in all other allowances as they have not been uprated for a number of years.
The CWU team put forward a number of arguments in support of the pay claim, including:
- BT reported solid 3rd quarter results showing pre-tax profits up 8% in the quarter and 5% in the last 9 months to £1.93bn.
- BT performing well with strong take-up of fibre broadband and BT Sport which are both expected to grow.
- BTís share price has risen by 68.4% since the 2013 pay deal, rising from £2.81 in April 2013 to £4.11 last week.
- The considerable contribution made by CWU represented employees to BTís strong market position.
Andy Kerr made it clear that the CWU believe that our claim is both affordable and justified given BTís current performance and the contribution made by CWU members to BTís success.
A series of meetings have been arranged with BT over the coming weeks and CWU Branches and members will be kept informed of progress.
