CWU Youth at CWU Conference 2015
25 March 2015
Following the success of the union's first ever Youth Day at General Conference last year, the Youth Committee is determined to follow up with a range of activities at this year's Annual Conference.
Once again, the focus of activity will be the CWU Youth Stall which this year will have two particular themes:
- reviewing youth activity across the union over the past twelve months, and
- our key policy priority of housing.
This will complement the debate that General Conference will have on Motion 1 on the agenda which prioritises and expands on our housing campaign.
New Delegates Briefing
The usual briefing for new and younger delegates will take place in the Windsor Hall at 6pm on the evening of Saturday, 25 April. This is an ideal opportunity for young delegates to meet each other and to experience first-hand what it is like to stand at the rostrum of the CWU's parliament. This will be followed by an informal get together with the Youth Committee which will take place at the Moon in the Square pub on Exeter Street. If young members are unable to attend there will be another get together on the Monday evening - same location.
On Sunday, the Youth Committee will once again be running mini masterclasses - these will take place in Bayview Suite 1 at the BIC at various times during the day and the subjects covered will include:
- How conference works,
- how to use social media,
- how to run a regional youth event, and
- how to write for CWU Youth's electronic newsletter, eFutureproof.
We are also organising a fringe event with a difference this year. Our guest speaker will be performance poet, Stephen Morrison-Burke. Stephen was Birmingham Poet Laureate in 2013 and opened the launch of The People's Assembly with the amazing "This is Serious" last year. Don't miss the opportunity to hear one of Britain's most vibrant, and compelling young performers. This will take place in Bayview Suite 1 at the BIC during the lunchtime of Sunday, 26 April 2015.
The Youth Stall will also have a new production from our most prolific vlogger (this is someone who contributes video pieces for www.cwuyouth.org) Dan Lewis of the Bootle Financial Services branch. There will also be the opportunity to sign up for forthcoming events such as the Branch Youth Officers on 2 June 2015, our Women's Under-representation Working Party on 30 October 2015 and the National Youth Education Event on 30 October to 1 November 2015.
