timescale, delivery requirements etc. If you would like more

Scotland - Major Conference On Corporate Homicide Reform In
Scotland - Organised By The CCA
The CWU is affiliated to the CCA (Centre for Corporate
Accountability) and with the TUC, STUC, Trade Unions and Safety
Campaign groups are part of the 'Campaign Coalition' campaigning for
effective corporate accountability, a new corporate manslaughter law
and proper Safety Law enforcement in Scotland, England, Wales and
Northern Ireland.
The CCA is organising its third annual one day conference in Scotland
on Thursday October 6, 2005, Patrick Burgh Hall Glasgow, with this
year's theme 'Corporate Homicide Reform In Scotland'. The Conference
is sponsored by STUC and Thompsons Scotland.
As the Scottish Executive has set up an "Expert Panel" on
Corporate Homicide to "To review the law in Scotland and to
submit a report to the Minister for Justice taking into account the
proposals published by the Home Secretary. This conference brings
together the Scottish Executive, Employers, Trade Unions, NHS and
Local Government Employers, Lawyers and members of the Scottish
Executive's Panel - to discuss what reform is required to the Law of
Corporate Homicide in Scotland.
This conference will consider whether there is a real Scottish
alternative to the Westminster reform and what this alternative may
be. It will look at what should be the nature of any Scottish
offence, how it should apply to crown and public bodies, whether it
should deal with the accountability of individual directors and what
sentences should be available to the courts. It will also consider
whether any reforms should also deal with offences involving serious
injury. Attached is a leaflet and registration form giving details of
the conference programme.
I would urge Scottish branches, and in particular Safety
Representatives, to support and attend the conference. A special rate
of CWU rate of £20 per person has been agreed between the CCA
for CWU union attendees to the conference (The standard fee is
£40), I hope therefore that as many CWU Representatives from
Scotland as possible will attend this worthwhile event and support
the policies of the CWU.

. Bill Speirs, General Secretary STUC

Protecting Vehicles Against Theft
The department were advised by Parcelforce Worldwide of a trial they
wish to roll-out for the use of lanyards at five Depots in the near future.
The offices concerned are:
Romford
Nottingham
Manchester
Birmingham
London Central
The lanyard is a flexible cord which is attached to the key of the
drivers' vehicle and can in turn be clipped to the drivers' belt or
loop. The purpose of the trial is to reduce the possibility of
drivers leaving their keys within their vehicles which has resulted
in a number of vehicles being stolen and also a number of our members
being dismissed.
Discussions took place between my department and Parcelforce
Worldwide and a Terms Of Reference has been agreed between us to
initiate a joint trial to take place of these key retention units in
the Depots detailed above.
The Terms Of Reference have been ratified by the Postal Executive at
their August meeting and are attached to this document (PE 19) and I
believe afford our members all the necessary safeguards.
Any enquiries regarding this matter should be addressed to Terry
Pullinger, Assistant Secretary, quoting the above reference 109.
