Openreach: Payphones Resource Reduction
20 February 2014
The National Team (NT) met with Openreach on 13 February 2014, to receive a presentation on the requirement to reduce resource within the current payphone organisation.
In recent years the numbers of payphones have reduced dramatically and that in turn has driven a reduction in the overall workloads, specifically repair. The company does, however, still retain the requirement to maintain the Universal Service Organisation (USO).
The reductions for both Field (12) and Coaches (4) are set out on a Regional basis. If there are insufficient volunteers then a selection process will be carried out. Openreach are actively seeking opportunities for those in C2 roles in order to avoid the potential requirement for Pay and Pension Protection.
The process is planned to be completed by the end of March 2014.
